Comeback rewarded with a podium finish
Keagan Masters’ comeback in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring ended with a podium finish. This top-three result also marks Proton Competition’s best result of the season so far.
After a difficult qualifying session, South African Keagan Masters started from eighth on the grid in the third round of the season of the world’s most competitive Porsche one-make series. Right from the start, the fast driver was able to make up several places and move up to fifth. In the closing stages, Masters benefited from a rival’s puncture and a time penalty, meaning he was classified in third place and secured Proton Competition’s first podium finish in the highly competitive series in 2026.
“I’m very pleased with this result – even though, unlike in Barcelona, I couldn’t quite keep up with the pace of the frontrunners. Nevertheless, we made the most of it. The start went very well, and the pace kept getting better towards the end of the race. Bristot’s penalty meant I still made it onto the podium,” Masters said after the gruelling race in Styria.
Kai Pfister and Rodin Younessi finished in 26th and 28th places. The Porsche driven by the fast Bavarian Alexander Tauscher was not classified.
“With another strong result, we’ve managed to establish ourselves with Keagan among the frontrunners in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which was our aim. We’ll continue to work hard so that we can build on this in the coming races,” said Michael Dirsch, who heads the team’s programme in the international one-make cup. “We would also like to apologise to Alexander for the car being withdrawn from the results following a team error. That shouldn’t happen to us and we will try to put a stop to it in future.”
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup continues in three weeks’ time at Spa-Francorchamps.
