Keagan Masters secured pole position at the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Barcelona, missing out on a podium finish only due to a time penalty. Guest driver Alexander Tauscher also showed great fighting spirit for Proton Competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was great joy on Saturday for Keagan Masters and Proton Competition. The South African secured pole position for the second round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season in Barcelona following a close qualifying session. For Masters, it was his first pole position in the highly competitive one-make series. In the race, he initially defended the lead before having to let the eventual winner past, but crossed the finish line in second place. However, due to track limit infringements, he received a five-second time penalty, causing him to drop back to fifth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexander Tauscher celebrated his comeback as a guest driver with the team from Hofkirchen, for whom he had previously driven for two years in the German Carrera Cup. The championship leader from the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland impressed on Friday with the fastest time in practice. After a difficult qualifying session, he had to mount a comeback from twelfth on the grid and was involved in some spectacular battles during the race. Ultimately, the Bavarian finished in ninth place. Kai Pfister retired early following a collision on the opening lap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very pleased with our pace in Barcelona,\u201d said Michael Dirsch, who heads up Proton Competition\u2019s Supercup programme. \u201cAlexander posted the fastest time in practice and put in a fine comeback in the race, whilst Keagan secured pole position and also had great pace in the race. Unfortunately, he received a time penalty, but we know our pace is right, which makes us confident for the upcoming races.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup continues on the last weekend of June at the Red Bull Ring, where Proton Competition has already secured a one-two finish in this year\u2019s German Carrera Cup. The German one-make series continues from 19\u201321 June at the Lausitzring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
