With three cars into Hyperpole

Following a strong qualifying performance for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, three Proton Competition entries have advanced to Thursday’s Hyperpole shootout. In LMP2, the #9 Oreca of Jonas Ried, Kaku Ohta and Harry King secured its place by finishing inside the top 10.

In LMGT3, both Ford Mustang LMGT3 entries also progressed comfortably. The #77 car of Eric Powell, Ben Tuck and Sebastian Priaulx, along with the #88 shared by Stefano Gattuso, Giammarco Levorato and Logan Sargeant, each finished in the top 10 to book their spots in Hyperpole. Meanwhile, the #44 Oreca 07 of Horst Felbermayr Jr., Horst Felix Felbermayr and Lorenzo Fluxá narrowly missed out, falling short by just four hundredths of a second.

Giammarco Levorato, #88 Ford Mustang LMGT3: “It’s the perfect start to the weekend, with Stefano able to make it through to Hyperpole. There was potential for more, but he had traffic on his fastest lap. But we are very happy with where we are right now. The main target is to find the perfect balance ahead of the race.”

Harry King, #9 Oreca 07: “We made it through to Hyperpole, which was the end ambition. I’m optimistic because the car had good pace and performance in it. We will be giving it our all in Hyperpole, but the main focus is on the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Saturday, so we will be working hard on checking off everything that we need to do for that, too.”

Horst Felbermayr Jr., #44 Oreca 07: “I am very happy with the performance, as I made some big improvements during the sessions. It’s frustrating to miss out by just four one-hundredths of a second, because I would have loved to have given Lorenzo a shot at the Hyperpole. The car is great and the team have been brilliant, so I am very satisfied.”
